Music & Cinema

–“Music is essentially built upon primitive memory structures.”

–“Do we have anything in music for example that really wipes everything out? That just cleans everything away?”

Morton Feldman (listen HERE)

If only people/audience would have been as open and receptive towards “cinema” as they usually are about “music”. With cinema people expect hard narrative fact, the rules are far more literal: somehow audiences approach the moving image with a literalness that is very primitive compared to the way music is enjoyed. Unfortunately, I think this is a very destructive force and attitude which caused false/poisonous expectations of cinema.
