EFS Film School

An artist-led school for personal, poetic, and experimental cinema.

EFS Film School is the teaching form of a filmmaking life. Founded and led by Rouzbeh Rashidi, it is an artist-led school devoted to personal, poetic, and experimental cinema — a place where more than two decades of uncompromising film practice are gathered, ordered, and passed on.

The school did not emerge from an institution but from the work itself: from the hundreds of films made within the Experimental Film Society since 2000, from years of teaching at institutions such as the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Berlin Art Institute, and from a conviction that the deepest questions of cinema — what an image is, what it does to memory, what remains when narrative falls away — can be taught only from within a practice, never from outside it.

The pedagogy is philosophical, poetic, practical, and deeply personal: guidance designed to help each student approach the cinema that belongs to them alone.

EFS Film School is where all of Rouzbeh Rashidi’s teaching now lives — recorded courses to begin at any hour, live online courses, onsite masterclasses, and one-to-one mentoring — and where his public writing continues, in the school’s Journal and News. Students have come to it from every continent.
